A tie is the hallmark of a distinguished gentleman, someone equally at ease in the boardroom and at formal functions. Try these simple cleaning tips to maintain and hand-wash this luxury clothing item.
All you have to do is follow a few simple tips to ensure their proper maintenance.
1) To Remove Stains
Always remember to blot the stain with a clean cloth. Do not, in any circumstance, rub the affected area as the stain will spread and make the process of removing it difficult. If the stain contains oil or grease, apply some talcum powder on it and let it rest overnight. Now, gently brush off the talcum powder with a clean, dry cloth. The stain will have been lifted from the fabric. If not, repeat the process.
2) To Wash
It is best to give out your ties for dry-cleaning. However, you must instruct your cleaners that your tie must be hand-pressed, as this will help preserve its rolled edges. If you want to hand-wash your tie, use a mild detergent and cold water, as hot water can damage the fabric. Do not dry your tie in direct sunlight as this can damage the fabric and cause it to fade.
3) To Remove Wrinkles
Using a hand steamer is one of the best ways to get rid of wrinkles from your ties. The wrinkles will disappear. Alternatively, you can iron out the wrinkles. To do this, place a towel below and above your tie. Spray a few drops of water on the towel. Set your iron to the lowest temperature and gently press the towel. Wait a few minutes before you take the tie out.
4) To Store
Always store your ties in a cool, dark place. Roll them into loose balls to avoid creasing, or hang them on a tie rack.
